The Bowl Championship Series presidents, have dealt a blow to the Mountain West Conferences aspirations for a true college football playoff, and rejected the conferences proposal for an eight team playoff sytem.
San Jose State Women's Water Polo had 3 team members voted this week to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-American teams. Seniors Juliet Moss, Tanya Torres, and freshman Dani Curran were the players to receive the 2009 All-American recognition.
John Wilner's San Jose Mercury News Blog is reporting that SJSU has pulled out of the 2010 Bill Walch Legacy Game, in order to play the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, AL. Wilber's blog is also reporting that the payout will be $1 million.
Five Spartans were taken in this years 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. SS Kyle Bellows went to the Indians followed by LP David Berner to the Astros, LP Max Peterson to the A's, RP Trevor Gibson to the Rockies, and RP Ryan Shopshire rounded out the Spartan draft when he was taken by the Blue Jays.
It was announced yesterday that San Jose State Football will have a third game nationally televised when the Spartans take on USC in LA on September 5, 2009. Game time is slated for a 12:30 Pacific Time kick-off and will be shown on FSN nationally and Comcast Sports Net in the Bay Area.
Former Spartan Linebacker Matt Costelo is reunited with Adam Tafralis after he signs a free agent contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Castelo is expected to join the team in June when training camp begins.
2009 SJSU Football Season Tickets Now Available

San Jose State Football season tickets are on sale now and are available through the Spartan ticket office. The Spartans will kick-off another great home schedule with an ESPNU televised game against Utah on September 12 and Cal Poly on September 26. The home schedule features the Sunday Night ESPN game vs. Nevada on November 8, and three other WAC contests versus Idaho, Hawaii, and New Mexico State.
All road games, including USC and Stanford, are also availble on the Spartan Athletics Ticket Office website. You can reserve your tickets for USC by either calling 1-800-SJSU-TIX or ordering them online at the Spartan Athletics Ticket Office.

In one of San Jose State football’s finest moments, three Spartans were taken in this years NFL draft. Defensive end Jarron Gilbert, and cornerbacks Coye Francies, and Chris Owens all cashed in on the draft on Sunday and are each headed to new cities. Jarron Gilbert was selected 68th in the draft by the Chicago Bears. Chris Owens was selected 90th and is headed to the Atlanta Falcons and Coye Francies is headed to the Cleveland Browns after he was the 191st player taken in the draft.

After decades of playing football and soccer on natural grass at Spartan Stadium, the major transformation to Field Turf was undertaken in the off season.
